The March Pack Meeting will be held at the Lancaster JCC on Oregon Pike from 7:00 to 8:00 PM.

This meeting will be about games and fun for the boys. There will be no awards or advancements presented at this meeting.

NOTE: MT Schools are closed on 3/22.

Our April Pack Meeting will focus on teaching the boys some fishing skills. If you have some experience with fishing and would be willing to share your talent with the boys, please contact Joe Dougherty. We will have advancements and awards presentation at the April Pack Meeting.

Hershey Bears Sleepover - March 26th @ Giant Center

The Pack has reserved 50 seats in the 200 level. You can choose to sleep over or to come to the game only.

Total cost for sleepover and game is $37 or $11 for the game only.

Sleepover activities last year included a meal voucher during the game and after the game ice skating, a visit from zoo America, a movie and snack. Breakfast is provided in the morning before departure.

Contact your Den Leader for an order form.

Deadline for ordering tickets is February 20, 2010 at the Blue and Gold Banquet. No exceptions as we will be ordering the tickets first thing Monday the 27th. All checks are to be made out to 'Pack 184'.

Tickets will only be ordered if paid for in advance.

World Scouting has been in contact with a member of the Scouts and Guides of France who happened to be in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, during this horrific earthquake. “This Scouter reports that our brother and sister Scouts are helping in the relief effort. No one should ever underestimate the power of Scouting! ‘Be Prepared’ are not just words on a piece of paper. Rather, they are a call to action,”... “At the end of the day, it does not matter how big or small an individual’s contribution is. We all give what we can afford. That’s what we do in Scouting. These are our friends, our fellow Scouts. They need our help. ‘On my honor, I will do my best!’ is a pledge that each of us has taken as a Scout.”

You can support the International Scout Aid in two ways:

1. Make an emergency donation to the Haitian Scout Association.

A special account has been opened by the World Scout Bureau, guaranteeing the use of these donations. If you choose to support the action of humanitarian agencies, we recommend that you approach those that have been long standing partners of the Scout Movement ( Red Cross ) that are organised and who have the necessary infrastructure to coordinate the support to Haiti from your country. To HELP other people:
It is requested that each Cub Scout family bring a food item for donation to support the Water Street Rescue Mission. The mission kitchen is currently short on the following items:

· Anything fresh - from fruits and vegetables to meat, cheese, eggs or milk
· Cereal
· Sugar (5lb bag)
· Sugar substitute
· Canned fruit (large cans)
· Canned Vegetables (large cans)
· Juices (at least 64oz) – vitamin C fortified
· Coffee creamer (dry bulk)
· Catsup
· Mayonnaise
· Dry pasta

It is also requested that each Scout family bring a dozen cookies to share with their fellow scouts at this Pack meeting. The Pack will supply bottled water for the boys to go along with their cookies and ice cream*! (*see below for more info.)

Other activities scheduled for our December Pack Meeting:

· Popcorn Sales Campaign Celebration and distribution of prizes earned. [Megan Devenney]

Following the Pack meeting, we will hold an Ice Cream Social. This is to celebrate the pack’s fundraising efforts and reward the scouts and their families for a job well done! The boys will also be receiving their prizes. Unfortunately none of the dens reached the given goal of averaging $200/scout. Den 7 was only off by $47! (Lucky girl Christine!) Hence, no den leaders will be getting a pie in the face! I’m looking forward to finishing up the popcorn sales on a sweet note! See you there!

Cubmaster succession: We are actively looking for a new Cubmaster for your boys in Pack 184. Cubmaster Joe Dougherty is moving on to Boy Scouting after 7 years with the Pack.

The new Cubmaster will be needed beginning with our March 2010 Pack Meeting (click here for the B.S.A. official responsibilities of a cubmaster). Joe will be around to assist and support the new leader throughout this transition and into the next Scouting year.

Everything the Cubmaster does is aimed at helping the individual boy. The Cubmaster directly influences the lives of individual boys by keeping in mind that boys can become better through Cub Scouting.

Saturday, November 14: Distribute bags in the den's assigned neighborhood; Beginning around 9 AM. This typically take a little over an hour. See your Den Leader for neighborhood assignments.

Saturday, November 21: Collect filled bags from your den's assigned neighborhood; Beginning around 9:30. This is usually a quicker venture than the distribution of bags.

After collection of bags, take them to Highland Presbysterian Church parking lot where Troop 99 will be there to gather and sort the food stuffs.

Celebration of Hope for a former Cub Scout

The article below was in the Nitrauer Nitty Gritty newsletter. Nick is a former Pack 184 Cub Scout and his younger brother, Tyler, is a Bear Scout in Den 3. It would be great for the boys and leaders of Pack 184 to show support for Nick and the Vicidomini family by dropping by for a few minutes at Grandview United Methodist Church this Saturday between 5 and 8 PM. Gather and come as a Den, or individually, just when you can; In uniform or not; It is the act of kindness that is important.

Celebration of Hope for a Fifth Grade Nitrauer Knight
On October 24th from 5-8 PM there will be a Celebration of Hope to commemorate Nick Vicidomini’s end of cancer treatment. A night of free games, sundaes, and fun fellowship is open to the community and will be held on the bottom floor of the Grandview United Methodist Church, 888 Pleasure Road in Lancaster (across from Schaeffer Elementary). Hot dogs, chips, and popcorn will be available for purchase, and donations will be accepted to reach a goal of $1210 for Alex’s Lemonade Stand, each dollar representing one day of Nick’s long journey. Alex’s Lemonade Stand works for the research and cure of childhood cancers. Please join in the fun.

Do a Good Turn Daily. This is the slogan of the Boy Scouts of America.
Some Good Turns are big - saving a life, helping out after floods or other disasters, recycling community trash, working with your patrol on conservation projects.
But Good Turns are often small, thoughtful acts - helping a child cross a busy street, going to the store for an elderly neighbor, cutting back brush that is blocking a sign, doing something special for a brother or sister, welcoming a new student to your school.

A Good Turn is more than simple good manners. It is a special act of kindness.

Camporama - Saturday Events are still on! (Friday & Sunday events cancelled)

BSA rules prohibit cub camping under 40 degrees. According to the weather forecast for this weekend, the nights will be in the low 30’s and Saturday may not reach 40. Therefore, the cub camping portion of the Camporama has been cancelled.

Additionally, due to the low temperature, the Philadelphia Zoo’s presentation is being postponed to a date yet to be determined. This is for the well being of the animals.

The event will be a Saturday only event. Breakfast will still occur at 7:00 am with registration starting at 8:00 a.m. Modifications are being made to the afternoon schedule, with dinner probably occurring at 5:00 p.m. The event will conclude after dinner.

Please contact everybody in your group to advise them of the changes. Remind everybody to dress warmly and bring rain gear as portions of the event will still be held outside. We appreciate your understanding.

Towards the end of his life, although still in comparatively good health, he prepared a farewell message to his Scouts for publication after his death. It read:

Dear Scouts,

If you have ever seen the play ‘Peter Pan’ you will remember how the pirate chief was always making his dying speech because he was afraid that possibly, when the time came for him to die, he might not have time to get it off his chest. It is much the same with me, and so, although I am not at this moment dying, I shall be doing so one of these days and I want to send you a parting word of goodbye.

Remember, it is the last time you will ever hear from me, so think it over. I have had a most happy life and I want each one of you to have a happy life too. I believe that God put us in this jolly world to be happy and enjoy life. Happiness does not come from being rich, nor merely being successful in your career, nor by self-indulgence. One step towards happiness is to make yourself healthy and strong while you are a boy, so that you can be useful and so you can enjoy life when you area man. Nature study will show you how full of beautiful and wonderful things God has made the world for you to enjoy. Be contented with what you have got and make the best of it. Look on the bright side of things instead of the gloomy one. But the real way to get happiness is by giving out happiness to other people. Try and leave this world a little better than you found it and when your turn comes to die, you can die happy in feeling that at any rate you have not wasted your time but have done your best. ‘Be Prepared’ in this way, to live happy and to die happy - stick to your Scout Promise always - even after you have ceased to be a boy - and God help you to do it.

What: The Blue & Gold Banquet is celebrated during the Scouting Anniversary month of February; It is a "birthday party" for Cub Scouting. In nearly all packs, the blue and gold banquet is a highlight of the year. It brings families together for an evening of fun and cheer. It's our pack meeting for February.

The purpose of the blue and gold banquet is to celebrate the pack's anniversary, thank pack leaders and other adults who have helped the pack, and inspire the leaders, Scouts, and parents.

We have invited former Pack members and other Scouting and community leaders to take part in our blue and gold banquet and Webelos II cross-over (bridging) ceremony.

The Cross-over Ceremony is a "graduation" for our Webelos II Scouts. It is for scouts that have achieved the highest rank in Cub Scouting - the Arrow of Light. The main goal of Cub Scouting is to prepare boys to become Boy Scouts. The ceremony of crossing the bridge marks their completion in Cub Scouting and the beginning of a whole new experience in Boy Scouting. Representatives of Troop 84 and Troop 99 will be on hand to welcome the graduates to their Troop.

That is about all we have in the current ones.

Also please do not include diapers in the kits, there are just too many sizes and so on and we prefer to offer financial assistance for things like that.

Only other thing we ask is that they all be the same.

Please feel free to add to this list if you think of another good idea. Maybe that might be something neat your kids could do as a group is come up with one thing that is something they want to include.

"Scouting for Food" Service Project: Saturday 11/8 & Saturday 11/15

Meet at St. Thomas Episcopal Church at 9:00 AM to get SFF bags for distribution to your Den's assigned neighborhood (see below).

Saturday, Nov. 15th:
After 9:00 AM, go directly to your Den's assigned neighborhood to pickup any bags filled with food donations. All bag collection must be completed by 12:00 noon. Take the filled bags to Highland Presbyterian Church for sorting and distribution.

"Scouting for Food” is Scouting’s community stewardship project aimed at addressing the problem of hunger in the community in which we live and work. Scouting for Food is a project rooted in the very foundation of the Scouting movement. Through initiative and hard work, the Boy Scouts of America have developed a framework that can help local food pantries feed tens of thousands of needy local residents with emergency aid. It is up to the people of your community to make Scouting for Food a success.

Den coordinators: Please record the name of each scout, the number of youth, the number of adults participating on each day. This data will be used to record this Service Project as a Good Turn for America. Each scout participating can earn a Good Turn for America patch (1st year) or Good Turn year 2008 patch (after 1st year of participation in a servic e project).

The Cub Scout theme for October is Adventures in Books. In keeping with that theme, we have booked Tales from the Trunk! Joylynn Keener and Becky Siebert collaborate to bring together stories which are tied around a central theme of character traits. Den 5 Webelos are responsible for end of meeting tear-down and put away.

IMPORTANT REMINDERS:

· Registration Form, BSA Application, and annual dues must be handed in at this meeting (or before).

· Popcorn Take-Order Sales Sheets are due at this meeting. Monies for the popcorn orders are due in mid-November after you've delivered the popcorn to your customers.

· Car Wash Fund Raising money and/or unsold tickets are due this week. The can be handed in at this Pack meeting or by 10/31.

· T-Shirt orders are due at this Pack meeting. These are for the yellow class-B T-shirts. Order form is also yellow and were available the last pack meeting. We'll have additional forms at this meeting, also.
